The Industrial Electronics Department (DEI),
inserted in the School of Engineering
of the University of Minho,
was created in January of 1989, occupying a clearly vacant space on the Portuguese university
structure. The DEI has been established as an important vector of
development of the School and University, privileging an intervening actuation
in the community. This actuation is made through the two principal
branches of university practice: Research
and Education.
The DEI is responsible for the courses of Graduation on Industrial Electronics Engineering and MSc. on Industrial Electronics. The Department also teaches subjects to various other Engineering courses on the areas of electronics, power electronics, control and industrial computer science.
The research projects developed by the Department's staff are mainly related to the supervision, control and management of activities on the industrial sector. In common, they present a perspective of integration between the university's scientific research and the practical application, which frequently results in the making of contracts between the university and companies.
The DEI possesses ample facilities on both poles of the University of Minho: Braga and Guimarães. These installations allow the teaching of courses with great component of practice / laboratory activity.
